Not so. This is from Australia, where it is the WINTER solstice. Not only that, but it takes place near Hobart, which is the southernmost major city in OZ. The air temp was around 43F and the water was about 54F. That’s 6 and 12 in C degrees. You probably thought the C stood for Centigrade, but it’s actually Commie. The F, or course, stands for Fuckin’, as in “It’s minus 12 fuckin’ degrees out there.”
Anyway, lots of naked people, but little to see. (Shrinkage?)
I live there and only went outside to get more firewood.

My uncle, a fireman from Staten Island, NY, was a member of the Polar Bear Club for many years. To the best of my knowledge, he never engaged in mass skinny dipping, but he did have an annual fashion tradition. Members of the Polar Bear Club go swimming throughout the winter, but their most well-attended swims are on New Year’s Day. He started wearing diapers and a top hat to the New Year’s Day swim. His wife would also wear a diaper, a sports bra, and a cardboard cowboy hat made out of a Miller Light box. One year, the New York Times ran a photograph of my uncle on the front page of one of their interior sections. I remember watching the local news the following year and had no trouble picking my uncle out of the crowd of people heading into the water at Coney Island. As the footage was running, the weekend anchor suddenly shouted, “Is that man wearing a DIAPER!?!” I attended one of the Coney Island New Year’s Day swims but never had any intention of going in the water. I was wearing a sweatshirt under a heavy jacket, and I was freezing while my uncle and his weird friends stood on the beach in swimsuits (or diapers), getting ready to take a plunge. Despite plenty of insulating blubber, I just don’t have what it takes to be a polar bear.
