The most extreme from the list: 3. Naomi Grossman – Pepper on American Horror Story. In Season Two, she was put in an asylum, accused of killing her sister’s baby, and in Season Four, she was part of a freak show. Naomi is so dedicated to her role, she even…
I don’t know about this list, which is kind of lame, but I don’t think Hulk would be much of a match for Marvel’s strongest characters. As you can imagine, various nerds have ranked the most powerful Marvel beings. Here’s a good example. They have ranked Hulk #27, and I…
All captures and comments by Whitecaps Living in the past as I tend to do, I was looking over Fast Times at Ridgemont High, when I noticed that one significant actress did not have a nude scene in the film – Amanda Wyss. You may remember she played Brad’s (Judge…
I saw Episode 1 the other day. It was pretty good. That said, I think that it would have been better if LESS had happened in the first episode – the series seemed to be in a hurry to get to its post-viral zombified essential state, rather than milking a slower spread of of the virus for dramatic effect. So I am glad that the producers have recognized in later episodes that less can be more in terms of storyline development in that sort of series.
Admittedly, “zombified” is a bit of a misdescription on my part. People do not turn into zombies. But I don’t quite know how to describe what they do turn into, so I went with that. I won’t say more to avoid spoilers.
I’d say “assimilated” like the Borg. I feel it’s interesting & creative as Scoop says. People who it’s not their cup o tea for just mix up their taste for what’s good & bad in some absolute sense. I mean, how come we look for perfection in things that involve our preferences? It’s irrational.
I find the overly long, diologue-less scenes too drawn out. 10 minutes of silence is fine, but don’t make it a farcical sketch involving a sandwich board and a pick up truck. And all the other people who didn’t get assimilated are annoying.
But Carol is more annoying.
It’s okay so far, but I’m still on the fence.
I’ll say it’s all far more than annoying if we take this seriously, say as in, as Sci-Fi rather than Fantasy. There couldn’t be any semblance of business as usual what with no customers, no proprietors, no real need for commerce as such. It’s a farce, & not all that funny. I’m still having fun just watching how much they’re willing to run with the ludicrous premise. But yes, that might get old fairly fast. I dunno yet.
I keep wondering what goes on off camera.
Is there still a stock market when everyone knows what everyone else is doing?
Do people still compete?
Do people still make films?
Do they just throw all that produce away because Carol is the only real customer?
This seems like an illogical and awkward premise, but I want to see what they do with it.
Also, I don’t have a good guess about the aliens’ endgame, but last week I thought maybe they were trying to keep earthlings from blowing up the universe with an uncontrolled chain reaction, and I may have been on to something, because the collective mind will readily give her anything else, no matter how dangerous, but are trying to weasel out of letting her use an atomic bomb.
Thumbs up to that.
I saw episode 2 last night and I must admit that, after seeing some promise in episode 1, I too am now on the fence. The show has an interesting premise, but enjoyment for me might be undermined by how annoying and unpleasant the main character is. And rest of the cast seems pretty annoying too, in their own way. I’ll watch episode 3 though, on the strength of Scoop’s specific recommendation, and then decide if I will watch more. I do see some promise of nudity as the show goes on, though hopefully not from the main character.
Agree with Scoopy on this show…high end TV.
I’m hooked. They are gradually rolling out the “rules” You can ask for anything you want except maybe not and atomic bomb. Getting overly angry will kill a bunch of the hive…like 11 million just for one tantrum. Carol is trying to balance this against going crazy.
It’s a cool show. If Vince Gilligan can convince Rhea Seehorn to get her clothes off, he deserves sainthood.

I would not have wished for that. Before this show. It’s arguably awful. But clearly they’ve done something right. Hiring actresses who’ve done nude scenes before & are OK with it was a good move, for one. The acting is quite good. Yeah, the characters, dialog, & plot are all kinda annoying. I figure that’s by design. IOW it reflects well on the acting.
OK. So here’s how I “figure” that. The show creates a tension between the obvious hopelessness of the situation and an unexpected power to hurt the enemy. It then doubles down on the dire by making the uninfected few in number & all of them asshats. All is lost. Yet there’s a glimmer — ANH: A New Hope. The aliens have this ridiculous Achilles heel. That’s both kinda comedic & also promises better days ahead.
One could call this brilliant. But it’s a joke lots of viewers won’t find funny. I see Severance that way. A show I like.
