Sarah’s comedic shtick is making people uncomfortable. You can’t say she holds back or that she lacks energy. In the section beginning with this short clip, she went on and on about how far her labia dangle, and that was some of the tamer material. She touched upon every unpleasant bodily function you can name. I did watch it all, and I did laugh some, but mostly I squirmed, which is presumably what I was supposed to do (the name of the special is Sarah Squirm Live + in the Flesh).
I think she’s great on SNL, especially when she embarrasses Colin Jost on Weekend Update, but this HBO special was a little too far over-the-top and too repetitious for my taste. She does seem to have a fan base. The audience seemed to love being grossed out.

I just saw this late night and it is fuuuuucked up. But delightful. Her audience didn’t know whether to laugh or run for the exits. The graphics in the background are mental. This is multimedia performance art and she is either a genius or a candidate for a long rest in an institute.
Recommended for fans of large labia and very hairy pubes.
Btw, I’m inclined to go with genius and respect her original “out of the box” thinking. I laughed very hard at times.

Still trying to figure out what her talent is. Gilda Radner, Maya Rudolph, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig… Sarah Sherman? That’s like including Andy Dick in with actors like De Niro & Hackman. I guess if you can’t figure out how to be intelligently funny, just talk about a hairy pussy, and the knee-slapping, aisle-rolling laughs will come?
Well, at least maybe she has slightly more talent than other head-scratching Lorne-ettes like Melissa Villasenor, who did one impression: Owen Wilson. Or Melanie Hutsell, who was hired strictly on her ability to do Jan Brady in one skit. Then you have Leslie Jones, whose big skill was breaking up in sketches. I guess Sarah and her hairy pussy are hilarious compared to those losers, but I’ll take Maya over them all.
She has written some sketches on SNL I love, weird shit they never would have dine normally, like the singing skin tags or the one where she replaced her eyes with googly eyes. She’s great!
If Gilda Radner had been born 50 years later, into today’s very different world, she would be Sarah Sherman.
The other three aren’t comparable. They’re great actresses who appear in funny 3-minute movies.
The characters they bring in for the Weekend Update bits are usually 50-50 for me, but Sherman’s goofiness in those is almost always funny even when the actual script isn’t. Not so sure about this special. She maybe is funnier when she’s being reined in a bit.
“My vagina” is the “Women be shopping” of hacky female comics.
I think that’s a distant second behind “men won’t ask for directions.”
Every cliche has a heart of truth. I read a lot of porn mags growing up, but never learned to please women until I learned to ask directions.
There’s more than a hint of truth in that.
