Katherine Armstrong topless in Crash and Burn (1990)

Scoop, June 28, 2025 (2:34 am) ... 1 comment.

Sci-fi horror film from the USA

Unicom is a powerful organization overseeing most of the world after its economic collapse. They have banned computers and robots in an attempt to insure “life, liberty, and the pursuit of economic stability”. When a Unicom Synth robot infiltrates a southwest TV station and kills the manager, a revolutionary against the gestapo-like corporation, a lowly Unicom delivery man must help the rest of the station survive through the incoming “thermal storm”.

I don’t know anything about Katherine Armstrong. Her IMDb filmography shows that she was a bit player in the period 1989-1996. The failure of her career to take off is in no way related to her looks. She was a babe!

Minna Wündrich – full-frontal nudity in Ivo (2024)

Scoop, June 28, 2025 (2:18 am) ... no comments.

A made-for-misery drama from Germany.

It’s an unsentimental drama that relates to the daily heaviness of life for a dedicated care-giver nurse named Ivo (Minna Wundrich). She travels by car treating many terminally-ill patients in their homes across Germany, using the car to refresh herself between visits.

Ivo is a forty-something single mom of a teen-ager. She hides her emotions behind her professionalism, as she treats patients for their pain and consults with them and their families about their illness. But she’s a lonely person, emotionally overwhelmed by her thankless job, one that has taken a heavy toll on her.

One of her patients is her old friend Solveigh. She violates the nurse’s code of conduct by having an affair with Solveigh’s husband. Later she will assist Solveigh as she takes her life.

Although Minna Wündrich is in her early 40s, she has no significant IMDb credits until 2020. Prior to that she spent some 15+ years as a stage performer.

Ten Cartoon Shows for Adults

Scoop, June 27, 2025 (11:21 pm)June 28, 2025 (2:21 pm) ... 14 comments.

The list is obvious and superficial, but it reminded me of something I had totally forgotten. According to that article, Family Guy was cancelled after three seasons. There were no episodes from 2002-2004, and it seemed to be dead, but in the face of entreaties from an ardent fan base, ABC gave it a second chance, and it’s now in season 23.

Has any other show ever come back from the dead for a 20-season run? I’m not a huge fan. I never make any effort to watch that show, although I enjoy it when I stumble on it, and the crazy cutaways can be hilarious. But irrespective of the show’s merits and originality, or lack thereof, that’s an amazing story!

—-

Sidebar – when I was a kid, I found the Kirwood Derby to be hilarious, especially since Durward Kirby seemed like a piece of driftwood who occasionally drifted onto our TV screen for no apparent reason. Some old-time TV sidekicks, like Harry von Zell, could be funny when they played into their own lack of importance and became the butt of the star’s jokes, but Durward never seemed to be in on the joke. I think he thought he was talented.

And in comparison to Garry Moore, I suppose he kinda was. I never could figure out the appeal of either of them.

By the way, do today’s kids still like Rocky and Bullwinkle? Do they even know about them?

The Top 100 films of the 21st Century

It’s a good list, well written, well defended, and they made room for genre pictures that don’t usually score high. Of course, we all have opinions that would alter the selections. Here are some of my barely-formed initial thoughts.

  • I was happy to see Eternal Sunshine so high on the list (#7). It deserves that spot, even though it was not nominated for Best Picture in its own year – one of the most egregious snubs in history. It’s a mad, funny, touching masterpiece. Memento, kind of a similar movie without the humor, is also on the list, and deserves to be. Another Charlie Kaufman masterpiece, Adaptation, is also on the list – perhaps too high at #27, but deservedly included.
  • I was also happy to see that they allowed an action film, Mad Max Fury Road, to finish so high on the list (#11)
  • Superbad, Anchorman and Borat certainly deserved their spots, although Borat probably should have earned even a higher place than #53. You could make a good argument to place that in the top ten.
  • I agree that Gone Girl is a great, if largely forgotten, thriller. I don’t know about “Top 100,” but I’m glad they brought it up to the front burner.
  • I’m glad they remembered Pan’s Labyrinth and Amelie, brilliant oddball films that often get ignored by lists like this. I might have added Jo Jo Rabbit and In Bruges to the list as well.

On the negative side, as usual the voters are trying to show they are serious people by overrating arty crap and ignoring funny movies. I can think of about 20 films to kick off the list to free up some spots.

  • Moonlight is way overrated at #5.
  • Call Me By Your Name is nothing special, certainly not a top 40, probably not even deserving of the list at all.
  • Tree of Life is pretentious bullshit rated in the 6s at IMDb. I don’t know what they were thinking by putting this one on the list.
  • There absolutely could be more comedies. The Hangover, Shaun of the Dead, Kick Ass, Deadpool, Tropic Thunder, The Forty-Year-Old Virgin, Hot Fuzz, Wedding Crashers and others could be considered. I expected Tropic Thunder to make the list, and any one from that list could have the spots they awarded to Inside Llewyn Davis or The Florida Project.
  • No room for any Richard Curtis, Giuseppe Tornatore or Woody Allen films? Is gentle, romantic sentiment unworthy? Love, Actually and Midnight in Paris are not the sorts of films I normally like, but I like those two films much better than … well … many on the list. As for Malena, that absolutely should be on the list.
  • I might have placed Last King of Scotland and Argo above some of these arty films.
  • I’d have to give it more thought, but off the top, I think I might have included Remember the Titans.
  • No room for any of the Toy Story films or Paddington 2 in the top 100? Somebody wasn’t paying attention to this genre. Toy Story 3 absolutely should be on the list, arguably near the top.

I think she did it on purpose, and the too-slow censorship also seems intentional. It seems that she’s just daring the platform to do something about it.

The short nude career of Tahnee Welch

Scoop, June 27, 2025 (12:16 pm)June 27, 2025 (1:05 pm) ... 3 comments.

Tahnee, Raquel’s beautiful daughter, started off strong in Hollywood with a nice role in Cocoon, including a tiny bit of nudity done by a body double. That turned out to be her career highlight. She couldn’t get arrested in the USA, so like many other disgruntled American actresses, she took a shot at European cinema.

In her case, BAD European cinema. She made some real stinkers. The two films where she did nude scenes without a body double are rated 4.4 and 2.3 at IMDb. Night Train to Venice, the 2.3, is particularly awful. It stars Hugh Grant at his smarmiest in the beginning of his stammering, floppy-haired days. Malcolm McDowell just sort of hangs around in the shadows, acts mysterious and cashes his paycheck. I just watched the film, and still don’t know what it is about.

Tahnee herself reviewed it better than anyone else!

Just for fun, I extracted the last two minutes of the film “as is” to create the clip below. The (inept) love scene is intercut with some travelogue footage that I would normally cut out, but I thought you might enjoy seeing just how bad the film is. Mind you, this entire sequence is essentially an epilogue. The film’s alleged plot was complete, and there’s nothing left but what you see in the clip (all of which is unnecessary), which meanders into the closing credits.

I guess the director realized (1) that he forgot to show Tahnee’s breasts; (2) that he had paid for some cool helicopter footage of Venice, so he might as well use it; and (3) he needed a place to insert the lovely, lilting “Night Train” theme. My guess is that the composer was contractually obligated to come up with something, and probably spent all of two minutes to write down some perfunctory words and chords. It’s like those little songs that Mel Brooks made up on the spot when he was challenged by a talk-show host to create a song about any subject, using a certain musical genre.

Oh, that Night Train
It carries your dreams
It’s not like a day bus
Or even an afternoon ricksaw
Yeah, Night Train
Oooo, yeah!

OK, I made that up, but the real song is no better.

Anyway, back to Tahnee’s nudity …

Night Train to Venice (1993)

Here are the clips: an HD video from Lethal Obsession, and the DVD clip from Night Train to Venice, as mentioned above.

As her career seemed to be winding down, Tahnee made a last-ditch effort to revive it by showing the works to Hef in 1995.

Not much work came out of it. She closed off her nudography as she had begun it – with a body double – in a film called Body and Soul.

When the 90s ended, she gave up the grind and retired completely into private life. She made a clean break. She really hasn’t been heard from in the quarter-century since since she walked away. She’s 63 now, and I don’t have any idea what she looks like these days.

Beata Niedziela is naked in It’s All Because of Her (2025)

Scoop, June 26, 2025 (8:15 pm)June 26, 2025 (8:17 pm) ... 4 comments.

Polish short drama. Original title: “To wszystko przez nią”

It’s All Because of Her is a film about the relationship between mother and son; about emotional hunger the confusion of roles and hierarchy in the family; about abuse secrecy and the kind of transgression that can happen when we run away from the truth. It’s a film about the overwhelming female loneliness that comes from lies and denied feelings. When the lie comes to light, Maria, on some level, loses her son.

That’s sort of a poetic, oblique way to describe what’s happening. The Polish Nudography site is more direct:

Maria takes off her shirt and masturbates by the window and then on the bed. In the next room, her son does the same. He thinks he is sexting a girl he recently met, but it is really his mother.

Inappropriate mother-son relationships seem to be a specialty of Beata. Nudografia has only one other nude scene from her, and it’s in a 2015 stage play called “Oedipus Loves You.”

That’s taking MILF to a new level.
