IMDb says it is a French film in English, originally titled “Don’t Watch,” by young filmmaker Abel Danan. Under its previous title, this film won the top prize at the Menton International Fantastic Film Festival in 2023.
In the midst of summer, Alex, an influencer, invites a few friends to her isolated country house. One evening, after streaming video, they are visited by a persistent stalker. It’s the beginning of a dreadful night they’ll never forget.
Or, as I like to call it, the universal horror film plot. The French edition of Vanity Fair is more specific:
Abel Danan is part of a line of filmmakers who have examined the malaise of our relationship with social networks. How do you capture the horror of moments when online hate spills over from your screen? In his third project, Don’t Watch (2023), young filmmaker Abel Danan offers a macabre tale. Influencers go to film themselves in the countryside for the great pleasure of their fans. One of them visits them, and will never stop haunting them. The country weekend turns into a journey to the end of hell. Followers enjoy an ultra-violent spectacle, without distinguishing the line between reality and fiction.
