Anyway, as I understand it, this series takes place in the 16th century? Yet it looks like Ludivine escape from the set of Goldfinger from the early 1960’s! Is there time travel in the show? Was gold body paint a big thing in the 16th century?

If I remember correctly, that character believed that bathing in some form of gold would preserve her youth. I don’t remember whether they ever specified the precise composition of the liquid.

That refers to the very character played by Ludivine. Interestingly, it makes no mention of BATHING it in. She was famed for DRINKING it.
Dramatic license, I guess.
They had to choose which created better visuals: the sight of a naked Ludivine bathing in gold, or a shot of her drinking something yellowish.
