I’m not sure whether it is a good sign or bad that two of the best nude scenes of 2024 are 40-50 years old. In addition to this one, there was a young Helen Mirren in all-new footage from Caligula.
The images speak for themselves. It is raw footage of Phoebe wading into the surf – with none of the filters used on the final print.

That is something. Much appreciated. It is unfortunate that was not in the main movie – it would have been a very popular scene. Or maybe they should have made the whole movie that scene and variations on it.
Well, technically it is in the main movie, the scene in the film used filters.

I actually saw it recently for the first time. So wonderful a film, it’s now one of my favorite films. However, I don’t recall any famous cartoon characters getting killed in it.
He wasn’t “famous”, but the villain Judge Doom was killed by being dissolved in The Dip.
This is how all nude scenes should be. Unfiltered. If you’re going to hide the parts, you might as well keep them clothed.
Wow. Phoebe Cates was my favorite as a young kid growing up so this is one of the best things I’ve seen. Also proof that movie makers have been ruining naked actress scenes forever. The unnecessary filters were probably used so her bush wouldn’t be so visible. They acted like it was the biggest thing in the world to show so they usually cut it out completely, or if left in made sure it was very brief or hard to see. It’s great that they put it out today, but kind of sad that they made it hidden.
Can’t be the case because in the initial release there are several seconds of Phoebe Cates’ bush clearly visible (two separate scenes of her swimming.)
I have no idea why they used the filter in the theatrical release – if they did, maybe it was just added in to the original VHS release? According to what I’ve read, these rips don’t do the blu-ray DVD full justice, but I’ve made caps previously of Phoebe Cates in this scene and this rip anyway isn’t much better than what I used to make caps.
I think it was an artistic decision. Or because the script notes stated that she swam at twilight or something. I don’t think it was to conceal anything in this case, because everything has been shown.

Scoop. Thank you for this. Am I correct these are all from the November 12, 2024 Bluray release? I ask because the Amazon listing doesn’t mention Deleted Scenes under Special Features. I want to be sure to buy the correct disc.

They were either doctored or simply swapped out. Just like the JFK autopsy photos. 🙂
