This may surprise you in two ways:
1. There is nudity in a South African film,
2. Embeth Davidtz is still getting naked at age 60.
It has been many years since Embeth Davidtz did a nude scene, but I guess she really trusted this director, perhaps because the actress and director have the same name.

She has done five previous nude scenes, or perhaps it’s more accurate to say that her characters have done five, although only the first two were were significant. According to her, she was not nude between The Gingerbread Man and Ray Donovan:
I was nude in The Gingerbread Man because it was Robert Altman. Then I don’t think I was nude onscreen for 20 years.
That’s obviously incorrect because of Junebug, so I would not be inclined to trust her version of anything without corroboration, but if we assume she forgot about Junebug, then the scene in Fragments must have been performed by a body double.
The scenes:
She did a brief full-frontal in Schindler’s List (1993).
The best by far, was a full-frontal appearance in The Gingerbread Man (1998).
She did a sex scene in Junebug (2005)
Her character was pictured naked in Fragments (2008), but that may have been a body double, since her face never appeared in a frame with the nudity.
Her final nude scene before the new one was in a 2016 episode of Ray Donovan (s4e6). I don’t know how much of that is real. (As opposed to prosthetics or make-up. Embeth underwent a mastectomy in 2013, and that was pertinent to the story, but the procedure she underwent in real life was a double mastectomy, so I don’t know exactly what we are looking at here. Here is the story.)
Those are actually her breasts in Ray Donovan. She has one nipple or at least reconstructed. Not sure. They did apply makeup on her scar to make it look more recent. She mentioned she was also naked in Schindler’s List. I’m guessing the context wasn’t very erotic.

I think that was the only time she discussed it. It does look like breasts that have been reconstructed after a mastectomy. Other examples of actresses who did nude scenes after such a procedure include Angelina Jolie and Maura Tierney.

She is South African. She was born in Indiana, but only by happenstance. Her dad was studying at Purdue.
