I’m sure you know what this is about. A resident in the Chicago area, John Wayne Gacy got the death penalty for the murder of (at least) 33 young men and boys in the 1970s. He remained on death row for 14 years before the execution.
This nudity is unusual in two ways:
(1) There was no female nudity in the first seven episodes, then a topless scene in the finale, when the only people watching are those already invested in the story.
(2) There has been no previous nudity from Ella Rae Peck in a career approaching two decades in length, but she made her nude debut here at age 35.
I certainly have no objection in either case. It’s never too late for nudity.
(OK, maybe “never” is too strong. It’s probably too late for June Lockhart, who turned 100 in June and has never done a nude scene.)

As for Ella Rae Peck, she’s a stunner. It’s hard to tell that from just this clip. I’d like to say I remembered her from 2010 in Blue Bloods or The Good Wife. (Age 20.) I’m just not that good. What I do remember her from is The Looming Tower (2018). (Age 28.) Notably, Annie Parisse was topless in that. In a sex scene with Jeff Daniels (in the role of James Comey). But I made a mental note of Ms. Peck. When I saw her name today in your headline, my antennae stuck straight up. Now I need a new ceiling fixture.
Oh & apropos that age of 35 thing, Emma Watson turned 18 in 2009, 28 in 2019, 34 now, & wb 37 when she returns to her acting career in 2028. Not that I’m specifically expecting her to do nude scenes. But it’s one interpretation of her history that in the past she did want to grab our attention in such a way. Scarlett Johansson, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, & Alison Brie have said things to the effect that they’d had plans to debut nudity in their 30s. Not that every actress would be so confident of longevity. My point is, that doesn’t make them martians. Many actresses would like to plan their careers like that. It isn’t that the thought doesn’t occur to them. It’s rather that they don’t believe it’s a viable option for them. So, as you observed, they tend to do it early, or not at all.
But it’s an opportunistic calculation. There’s plenty of good actresses who coulda had lots more work if they’d done a nude scene while they were still hot. But look, Keri Russell was just almost VPOTUS in The Diplomat (US), is old (49), but her hotness was still a credible undercurrent throughout it. I’d date Maggie Lawson or Morena Baccarin, both featured in new Bruckenheimer shows, in a heartbeat if I could. They too are middle-aged.
