November marks our 31st anniversary. It has been on the internet since 1995, and still contains every since post since early 1998.
I used to claim that it was the internet’s longest-running blog that had been updated every single day. I broke that streak in 2023 when I struggled with an infection, and was off the air for about a month, but it was a healthy streak that resumed after I recovered.
A membership at The Fun House is now basically the only way you can support Other Crap. I tried the donation route and it worked great. Enough of you guys pitched in here and there, that I basically broke even for my last financial year. All I want to do is to pay all of my hosting expenses, and it worked out almost exactly right.
Unfortunately, I seem to have broken a PayPal rule against the sorts of organizations that can accept donations. Never mind that you were all willing, uncoerced donors. Oh, well. It’s their site, their rules. But that raises an issue.
The only way to support the program now is to subscribe to the Fun House.
Not that that’s a bad idea. There are nearly 30 years worth of pics and videos. There are no dead links because everything is hosted internally, so everything that was ever there is still there.
Even now, the daily edition of the Fun House contains many things not in Other Crap.
The difference between them?
Other Crap is basically for everything new or noteworthy. Older material does appear, but usually only if there is some new wrinkle, or I run across something cool that I had forgotten. Plus Other Crap involves a lot of bullshitting and jokes about sports, movies, history and politics.
The Fun House is about nudity only, and is basically for everything. Period. All of the contributions of Aesthete, Tuna, Brainscan, Charlie and the others, plus the work of other former contributors, plus any new or old material that I create or run into, whether significant or not. For Other Crap, I may take a pass on a 1980 Hungarian movie starring forgotten women, but if I run across something like that, it’ll get into the Fun House.
The irony is that Other Crap now has more fun, and the Fun House has more crap.
So, anyway … subscribe to the thing. You’ll be doing yourself a favor while helping to keep all the Scoopy sites alive, thus preserving possibly the world’s third-most precious cultural treasure, rated just lower than Michelangelo’s David and Alexandra Daddario in True Detective. (Although Alex would have some serious competition if we could ever get an uncut HD version of Rosanna Arquette in The Executioner’s Song.)

Thanks Scoop. Too bad about the donation route. Is there any other alternative than PayPal for donations? If not, I will subscribe to The Fun House.
Ko-fi should be an option if you’re looking for another way for people to donate.
