Italian drama. Original title: Noi, un po’ meglio. (“We, a little better.”)
At the center of the story is a couple with their contradictions and a desire for family that doesn’t arise at the same time or immediately take the same form. Simon and Lucia (Maria Chiara Giannetta) meet in far from ordinary circumstances. She’s been involved in a car accident, he’s the firefighter who comes to her aid. From that meeting, a relationship is born that, over the years, finds its own balance between different personalities and expectations.
Simon is attached to the idea of family and seeks stability as a point of reference. Lucia, on the other hand, defends her independence, resents convention, and has never wanted to become a mother. Their differences don’t impede their relationship, but permeate it: they surface in conversations, in everyday choices, and in the compromises necessary to continue choosing each other. When the couple is faced with the possibility of adopting a child, their balance is tested. The adoption journey leads Simone and Lucia to question the reasons for their desire, their respective fears, and the very idea of family they have built over time.
