Well, I guess last week’s three-way debate over #1 is over for now. Last week, the ESPN computers, the Sagarin computer and the AP voters came up with three different number ones: Texas, Alabama, Georgia.
But this week:
* Texas lost to Oklahoma on the game’s final play, despite holding the Sooners to only 238 yards of offense. Arch Manning threw two critical interceptions, and the Longhorns also allowed a blocked punt.
* The other two played each other and Georgia won.
So the debate between those three is settled, and Georgia emerged as the kingpin, but that raised a new three-way debate.
- ESPN’s system now says Ohio State is #1, despite their loss.
- The AP voters prefer Georgia.
- Sagarin’s system points to Notre Dame!

In other, less interesting results:
Indiana was very fortunate to leave Nebraska with a win. They trailed 17-6 in the fourth quarter, and were outplayed the entire game. Nebraska held on to the ball for 40 minutes and ran 83 offensive plays, compared to 44 plays in 20 minutes for Indiana. Indiana was successful on only one of 10 third-down conversions. If you look at the stats, you’d think Nebraska won by three TDs. But that’s not how it went down. The only thing that really matters is what is on the scoreboard at the end of the game. Indiana won 20-17.
Some takeaways from this game:
1) Nebraska is really good. I didn’t realize that. It’s outrageous that they were unranked with a 5-0 record.
2) Indiana showed some real grit in coming back to win against a team that was dominating them.
3) Indiana is going to have its hands full with Ohio State next week, even though the Hoosiers will be at home.

Well, I guess I can stop talking about Florida. After having been vanquished by unranked South Carolina, the Gators’ roller coaster ride through the AP voting has placed them back where they started – unranked.

The Gators had some good moments this week, but poor pass defense and three turnovers proved costly. By the way, that was South Carolina’s first conference win after three defeats.

#10 LSU lost to unranked Kentucky 35-34 in OT. Weirdly enough, Kentucky won last week by the exact same score. The computers still like LSU, but the AP dropped them all the way to #22.
#13 Oregon also lost, to #21 UCLA. Neither team moved the ball well in a 17-15 game. I don’t know whether that was great D or lackluster O. The computers still like Oregon, but they have dropped all the way out of the AP rankings.

“You have to have an indomitable will. A will that cannot be defeated or subdued. You have to be resilient and have the ability to overcome the unexpected. Good teams find a way to win a game like this at the end.”

Bro, we come here for nudes. WTF is football doing here? Makes no sense. Start a sports blog.
Its an other crap blog. Sometimes it contains sports, sometimes it contains boobs, sometimes it contains other things.
You do understand that this is the internet and its pretty easy to find nekkid wimmin?
The proper procedure for submitting your complaint is to write it down on a piece of paper, seal it in an envelope, and mail it to the hospital in which you were born. “Correctly follow correct protocols” is the motto here!
I normally hate the phrase: “Found a way to win”, but it is appropriate here.
What? No mention of the no-call PI against Georgia at the end of the game? The ball wouldn’t have been placed inside the 5 yard line for a 1st & goal bc college rules, but it would anyway have resulted in a 1st down well inside field goal range. And then I think probably no sack & likely tying the game, but possibly a TD, in which case Bama likely wins. I dislike both teams, so I really DGAF who gets the win. It just seems capricious to me how precariously top teams eke out their W’s.
Indiana nearly got beat by Nebraska, yet Nebraska remains unranked on both polls. You know, AP & Coaches. DGAF about Sagarin & ESPN.
My takeaway is nobody knows nuthin. I blame it on the freewheeling shuttling of star players among the pool of elite teams. Or something.
It does seem to me that Nebraska should be ranked. I wonder how closely those writers really study the games before casting their votes.
As you say, it seems a case of “nobody knows nuthin’.” And, yes, I agree that the big money and the transfer portal are well on their way to destroying college sports. I used to love college football, but my interest wanes every year. My only remaining rooting interest is to cheer for whichever team has the smaller budget!
