When I see her now, I think of Ric Ocasek shafting her. She cared for him all through his illness and when he croaked, she found out he screwed her in his will. Guy lived with that secret all through his illness.
Yeah I just finished The Big Book o’ The Cars and Ric was quite a guy. Who *really* got screwed though were his first two wives and their kids. Paulina was able to claw back 1/3 of everything because of Mass. law.
A lot of the trouble for the band started with “super-agent” Elliot Roberts. He was used to managing singer-songwriters – Neil Young etc. – so he made everything in The Cars run through Ocasek. Frinstance, they got an offer from Chevy. All they would have to do is have the tickets say ‘Chevy Presents The Cars’ across the top. No signage on the venue, the stage, or the tee shirts. And everyone in the band would get a Corvette. Ric said no, they other guys didn’t even hear about it til years later.
