I do enjoy a good chop-socky fight so I watched ’em all, but I gotta say… Their #4 (Tony Jaa in Ong Bak 3) should NOT be on the list.
Rather than stepping back so we can see the “action,” this sequence is full of close-up single hits, off-screen impacts, weirdo framerate shifts… the aftermath without the action. It reminded me of the laziest Steven Seagal fight, and that’s saying something.
Better to swap in the hammer fight from “Oldboy” or even one of the other scenes from “Crouching Tiger” like the teahouse melee or the bamboo forest fight.
I was pretty disappointed with #4.
One that reliably pops into my head is Donnie Yen vs Collin Chou in Flashpoint. Great punchin’, kickin’ and…. grapplin’!
I would have somehow added Alice Tseng in Ninja: The Final Duel
