Also known as Die Vorkosterinnen (German) and Le assaggiatrici (Italian)
This is a German-language historical drama about 15 women selected to be Hitler’s food tasters. It follows alleged historical events, as recounted by the last surviving “taster,” Margot Woelk, who died in 2014. Many people have suggested that the tasting group was a figment of her imagination. The entire concept has never been mentioned by any other person in even a single source. The existence of the group was completely unknown until Woelk, then 95 years old, told her story.
TAZ says:
Ob es Hitlers Vorkosterinnen wirklich gab, ist zweifelhaft. Ob es so etwas wie Vorkosterinnen für Hitler gab, ist historisch eher zweifelhaft.
(“It is doubtful whether Hitler’s tasters really existed. Whether there were such things as tasters for Hitler is historically rather dubious.”)
True or not, it makes for a good story. The screenplay is based directly upon the 2018 Italian novel “Le assaggiatrici,” by Rosella Postorino, which is called “At the Wolf’s Table” in English translation.
